Rural Communities — what the future might look like

We recently worked with the Southern Policy Centre (SPC) on a small but fascinating project exploring what the future might look like for a ‘typical’ village in Hampshire.

SPC used data from various sources to create a ‘typical’ village in rural Hampshire. They then created some hypothetical characters, and invited rural experts from across Hampshire to participate in a workshop to consider issues facing rural communities.

Ahead of the workshop, as part of our At the Studio service, we worked with SPC to visualise the village and its inhabitants, creating a large scale map, and profiles of the individual characters, which were shared with attendees. We also printed all pre-prepared materials, including a 1.5 metre square version of the map.

On the day of the workshop we recorded discussions with our traditional paper In the Moment service. Here are a few photos from the day:

We are now following-up with SPC to create an animated video — back At the Studio — bringing together various aspects of the project. There is also now a website, featuring lots of more output. The address for the website is: https://rural-future.net

Here’s a brief taster video.
