Come in number nine your time is up

It was that most wonderful time of the year again as Open Data Camp returned for the ninth time. We got to revisit Manchester scene of Open data Camp 2 in early July 2024.

If you were new to unconferences, you might have been puzzled by the lack of any obvious schedule. Well, that’s because the schedule is determined on the day, via the pitches people make. And those pitches end up as an insight of exactly what the open data community are thinking about each year.

And so here’s what was on people’s minds in 2024:

Whether you have been to an unconference or not, we are thrilled you would like to run a session at Open Data Camp! Many attendees reach out to us beforehand asking if a topic is suitable or not, and how to best run the session. After years of feedback and experiments, what we know is that we don't want Open Data Camp to be too strict about formats. We've seen all types of sessions: conversations, presentations, panels, "unkeynotes" (a posthumous definition), debates (I had something akin to a - friendly - boxing match with Jeni Tennison a few years ago!).

Day two of Open Data Camp 9, and the crowd are a little subdued after a lively night last night. But pitching has to happen, so let the ideas flow…
