Creators Emergency Summit

The title says it all.

To London for an event focused on the creative economy and the effect of Artificial Intelligence upon it.

Convened by Charting Gen AI and supported by Addleshaw Goddard and BRAID the Summit brought together 300 creators and their allies in law, politics, and ethical tech to discuss strategies and solutions to defending livelihoods in the era of generative AI.

Below are some personal sketched notes from session one of the event in which the Hosts - Graham Lovelace and Rebecca Newman laid out some of the legal and economic challenge around copyright and the proposed exemptions from it for the makers of Generative AI such as Anthropic and OpenAI.

They were then followed by a keynote from Baroness Beeban Kidron who led parliamenmtary resistance to the UK Government’s attempted giveaway of Copyright exceptions to the technology industry in recent years..

Finally in this short piece there was a launch for a report from the University of Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI - which is linked in the footer of the blog post.

There was a lot more of the event which is not recorded here but this space around permission or theft of creative materials for purpose of training Artificial Intelliegence will not be going away.
