Ambitions for your place

Multi sector events are often the most fascinating to record even if they bring particular challenges, mainly in the sheer volume of connections flowing from the graphic recording of apparently everyday matters.

For a graphic recorder this all leads to

complexity

complexity 〰️

As you might expect, it is much easier to capture one thing followed by another in a linear structure ( see above ).

Of course, the great majority of the subjects we capture at events in person or from distance, do not follow such nice, neat, and linear patterns as this!

So, with lots of complexity in mind, it was both a great thrill and a big challenge to be able to record an event with The Southern Policy Centre recently. Briefly, the SPC is a politically non aligned policy think tank whose work and research ranges across human activities in south central England.

The event themes at Ambitions for the Central South were Economic Opportunities and Devolution - Place - Opportunities for Sustainable Growth - and Levelling up and wellbeing. Each of which could easily have filled the entire event length on their own and quite possibly several times over.

And all of this essential event complexity was topped off with a political panel about the practical challenges and opportunities facing elected decision makers from the many tiers of government in England.

The short clip above gives some brief idea of the scope of the event and the insight and energy of the attendees, speakers and sponsors at Solent University in Southampton, Hampshire.

And so when thinking about graphic recording and event and complexity - by Drawnalism or anyone else - the giveaway is looking at the density of the recording. As in this example, when so many well informed speakers follow one upon another and make connections to one another you can get a very rich experience of In the Moment!
