Drawnalism at OTN 2018, Vietnam
Vietnam hadn't hosted the Oxford Tropical Network annual conference in 18 years, so the organisers pulled out all the stops for a three day conference in Ho Chi Minh City last week.
Tropical Disease is a huge problem in the developing world and Drawnalism has covered the subject previously for the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp in Europe. The conference in Vietnam covered the latest in tropical disease research across the OTN with representations from the centres in Kenya (KEMRI), Thailand (MORU), Vietnam (OUCRU), and Oxford University itself.
At Drawnalism, we're often asked if we have a background in the subject we're covering at a particular event.
Before any event, we prepare as much as we can, with background reading and briefings from the organisers, but we do rely on what is presented on the day and In the Moment. With the breadth and variety of subjects we cover at conferences across the world we couldn't possibly have enough detailed knowledge of every topic on our own.
So, it's very nice to hear, as we did last week, that we've summarised a presentation on a highly technical and complex subject such as tropical disease research in a way that people understand.
And with that in mind, here's a selection of artwork from last week's conference.
